Celtics wake up in the second half, beat the Hawks and reach the eighth straight win

Boston limits Atlanta to 40 points in the second half of the game; team has the best defense in the NBA in 2022

The Boston Celtics defense got the better of the Atlanta Hawks offense, both among the best of the season, in a 105-95 victory this Sunday afternoon in Boston. It was the eighth victory in a row for the home team. The young star Jayson Tatum, who had scored 13 in the first half, scored 16 in the third quarter and led the turn. Trae Young scored 30 points and 10 assists, and it was a lot of work.

The game changed entirely in the second half, with the home team's 42 points in the third quarter - tying the team's record this season in any end.

Boston had scored 45 in the entire first half of the duel. Jaylen Brown was the team's second scorer with 17, in addition to 9 rebounds. Derrick White, who played his second game for the Celtics, came off the bench and contributed 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Boston has the second-best defense of the season and the best defense of the year in 2022 in the NBA, in points conceded for possession. Atlanta is the third best attack of the season, the fourth of the year. On the other hand, it is the fourth defense that takes the most points for possession of the ball in this campaign. In the direct duel, the Celtics did not allow Trae Young and company to go beyond 100 points.

With the defeat, Atlanta reaches the fifth setback in the last 7 games. This after winning 7 in a row. The campaign is now 26-30, tenth in the Eastern Conference.

The Celtics are 33-25 and move up to sixth in the East by overtaking the Raptors. Boston and Atlanta still have two engagements ahead of All-Star Game weekend. The first faces Sixers and Pistons. The second, Cavaliers and Magic.

First period - Hawks 28 to 17: The Celtics have the best defense of 2022, but it was Atlanta that put on a show in the defensive part at the beginning of the duel. No Boston player has gone above 4 points. Meanwhile, Trae Young scored 13. From the perimeter, 0 of 6 for the Celtics and 5 of 13 for the Hawks, who made it 14-8 in the paint.

Second period - Celtics 28 to 27: The home team managed to balance the game in the second half and reduced the difference from 15 to 3 points. But the Hawks regained control and opened up again thanks to Bogdanovic's 12 points. Tatum picked up the pace and ended the first half with 13. Trae already had 18. The score was 55 to 45 at halftime.

Third quarter - Celtics 42-23: Boston ran over the Hawks in the third quarter, with Tatum's 16 points for a total of 29. Young scored just 5 to reach 23. The transition game (15 points to 5 so far) and the points in the bottle (42 to 22) were fundamental. The 42 points equaled Boston's record for any quarter of the season. Score from 87 to 78 for the home team.

Fourth Quarter - Celtics 18-17: Defenses prevailed over offenses in the last quarter, and the Celtics prevailed. The faster pace of play in the second half favored the home team, which only needed to control the game at the end after being run over in the third period.
